Splendor in Kent
While driving in Connecticut, I was surprised by this small shack surrounded by a huge tree. What made it more dramatic was that both were surrounded with all that space. I was affected by how both were central in the composition, yet their individuality was enhanced by their relation to the row of trees just to the left, like backup singers in a vocal group. And all were supported by the multi-colored trees rising on the mountain behind, visually meeting the top of the brightly lit tree in the foreground, bringing the composition full-circle. Opposites like, individuality & relation, I learned from my study of the important education Aesthetic Realism, founded by the esteemed educator Eli Siegel, are central to the understanding of both art and life. It is stated in this core statement: "The world, art, and self explain each other: each is the aesthetic oneness of opposites."
